At the recent Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Sports and Recreation Department awards ceremony held at the Multi-Purpose Center in Colombo 15, two outstanding netball players, Pinitha Nanayakkara and Thilini Sewwandi from Campbell Playground, clinched the titles of 'A' and 'B' division Netball Queens. The ceremony, organized by the Sports and Recreation Department of CMC, aimed to honor athletes within the Colombo Municipal Council region, with Badrani Jayawardena, the Commissioner of CMC, serving as the chief guest.

Community Centers and Playground players who participated in sports tournaments were recognized and awarded during the event. Shashini Jayaneththi, the Director of Sports at CMC, and Senior Sports Officer Chandana Perera led the organizing committee, overseeing the participation of 57 Community Centers and 19 playgrounds managed by CMC.

Highlighting the achievements of some CMC players on the international stage, Commissioner Badrani Jayawardena commended their contributions, as they brought home several medals and trophies, adding honor to the country.

In addition to the netball accolades, M.S.M Fazloon and M. Shlan from Ratnam Playground were recognized as the under-14 and under-16 best football players. M.H Hillmy and H.B S.P Kukatilleka received awards for being the best men's and women's Carrom players. The ceremony also honored outstanding players in basketball, bodybuilding, cricket, elle, and table tennis across various age categories.

Acknowledging the diverse talents within the Colombo Municipal Council region, the awards ceremony celebrated the dedication and accomplishments of these athletes, further promoting the vibrant sports culture fostered by CMC.
