Operation Yukthiya: Police Confiscate Nine Vehicles in Nationwide Anti-Drug Sweep

In a targeted crackdown on narcotics, law enforcement authorities have seized nine vehicles linked to drug dealers during the recent 24-hour special operations known as 'Operation Yukthiya (Justice).' Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandhu Tennakoon disclosed that the confiscated vehicles, valued at Rs. 68 million, are part of a broader initiative to seize assets acquired by criminals through ill-gotten gains. The Acting IGP affirmed that all such assets would be subject to confiscation.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Tennakoon emphasized that these vehicles, previously owned by criminals, have been handed over to the Illegal Properties or Assets Investigation Division of the Police. During an inspection of the impounded vehicles at the division's headquarters in Narahenpita, the Acting IGP expressed determination to pursue criminals who have fled the country to evade arrest. He assured that stringent measures would be in place to thwart any attempts by criminals to escape justice.

The seized vehicles include two vans, three cars, one jeep, one motorcycle, and two tipper trucks. The special island-wide 24-hour operation, 'Yukthiya' (Justice), launched by the Sri Lanka Police on Sunday, is specifically designed to combat drug peddling and organized crimes. Over the course of the last two days, the operation has resulted in the apprehension of more than 4,000 suspects. In addition to the arrests, law enforcement has successfully seized substantial quantities of narcotics, including heroin, cannabis, and ICE, as part of their ongoing efforts to stem the tide of illegal drug activities in the country.

As the dust settles on Operation Yukthiya, the Sri Lanka Police's resolute stance against drug peddling and organized crime stands evident. The confiscation of nine vehicles, valued at Rs. 68 million, marks a significant blow against the ill-gotten gains of criminals. Acting Inspector General of Police Deshabandhu Tennakoon's commitment to pursuing justice is unwavering, as evidenced by the transfer of seized vehicles to the Illegal Properties or Assets Investigation Division. The nationwide 24-hour operation has not only resulted in the apprehension of over 4,000 suspects but also in the significant seizure of narcotics.

This concerted effort sends a clear message that law enforcement is committed to dismantling criminal networks and recovering assets acquired through illicit means. As Sri Lanka strives for justice and security, Operation Yukthiya stands as a testament to the authorities' dedication to creating a safer and drug-free environment for its citizens. The ongoing commitment to preventing the escape of criminals underscores the resolve to ensure that those who engage in illegal activities face the consequences of their actions. The wheels of justice are turning, and the nation is steadfast in its pursuit of a more secure future.
